The Battle of Britain encompassed raids and air battles over the channel and later "the Blitz" over London and other British cities as well as many other skirmishes with the Luftwaffe.
We want to celebrate the bravery of the pilots and; the grit, resilience, of the regular civilian people of this country during this time.
What better way to do it than an homage to the Spitfire, one of the heroes of this battle. Spitfire units had a lower attrition rate and a higher victory-to-loss ratio than other RAF aircraft such as Hurricanes. During the battle, Spitfires generally engaged Luftwaffe Messerschmitt, which were a close match for them.
